تشير الأبحاث إلى أن أصابع اليد تملك إمكانيات متميزة في توصيل المعلومات إلى الدماغ لدرجة أن بعض الباحثين يذهب إلى ضرورة توفير معلومات يُمكن لمسها لإكمال إيصالها وتخزينها في العقول البشرية. ومن المعلوم أن بعض الأبحاث في وكالة الفضاء الأمريكية تعتمد على تدريب رواد الفضاء للتعرف على المعلومات بواسطة اللمس دون الاستعانة بالبصر.
وبناء على ذلك شرعت شركة ViewPlus الأمريكية وبالتعاون مع شركة HP العالمية في إختراع طابعة Emprint أمبرينت والتي تنتج رسومات عالية الجودة يستفيد منها المكفوفون والمبصرون. ويستطيع مستخدم الطابعة إنتاج وثائق تحتوي على نصوص حبرية للمبصرين ونصوص بارزة بالبرايل بالإضافة إلى رسومات بارزة وملونة. وتعتمد هذه الطابعة على ظاهرة أشتهرت بها نُظم ميكروسوف ويندوز وهي ظاهرة WYSYWIG, What You See Is What You Get. وترجمة هذا المصطلح هو: ما تراه على الشاشة هو بالضبط ما تحصل عليه عند الطباعة.
والطابعة تعتبر ضرورية لكل المدارس والمعاهد والجامعات والجمعيات المعنية بتعليم المكفوفين حيث تعوض هذه الطابعة عن الحاجة لإقتناء جهاز الضاغط الحراري والذي يقبل أوراق حرارية باهظة التكلفة فقط.
